Advanced Criminal Justice

Purpose

This program is designed for students seeking entry-level positions in the criminal justice field, as well as those currently employed in administrative support roles who wish to advance their careers. 

Credits scaffold into an associate of applied science degree in criminal justice which is ideal for students who want to stack credentials. General studies students can add this certificate to their program using criminal justice courses listed as general transfer electives.

Occupational Objectives

The program supports career development for individuals seeking positions such as local, state, or federal law enforcement, police officer, private investigator, corrections officer, or Private Security. 

Students should be aware that many law enforcement agencies have specific prerequisites for employment which may include: 

•   Comprehensive background investigation. 
•   Written and oral interview. 
•   Physical fitness assessment. 

Applicants are encouraged to review agency requirements, as they vary by jurisdiction. 

Internship Opportunity

This certificate program offers students the opportunity to complete an internship for college credit at a law enforcement agency, or criminal courthouse. The agency facilitating the internship will require a background check conducted by them prior to accepting the intern. Students who are unable to meet his requirement may instead take any criminal justice elective course offered at PVCC.
