The internship program at PVCC offers work experience in business, industry, government, nonprofits or professional associations while you are enrolled as a student at PVCC. Practical work experience coupled with your academic studies can help you achieve your career goals and educational objectives.

Internships may be paid or unpaid. You also may use your current employer as an internship site, provided the work you perform is related to your program of study and includes new learning experiences and objectives. Internship opportunities are offered through the following programs of study:

  • Email for an appointment to review internship requirements / expectations.

  • Amazon has paid internships worldwide (with some in No.Va. by clicking on the Herndon, Virginia USA location) in Information Technology, Business Management, Marketing, Data Science and Administrative Support.
  • Apex Clean Energy has paid internships ($15/hour) in many areas:  Information Technology, Project Management, Human Resources, Marketing & Communications, Public Engagement, Land Management and more!
  • CATO Institute in DC seeks paid ($1000/month) Summer Research or Communications Interns interested in public policy geared toward free markets / limited government (on multiple topics:  healthcare, education, taxation, foreign affairs, criminal justice, etc).  Apply by 2/15.
  • Charlottesville Opera has paid internships (typically a $500 stipend) in a number of areas: Artistic Administration, Education, Marketing, and Music.
  • Charlottesville Community Attention Youth Internship Program (CAYIP) places Charlottesville City residents ages 14-21 in local internships that pay a stipend up to $100/week. Apply between 5/5/20-6/12/20.
  • Dominion Energy seeks paid Summer Interns (in Mineral or Richmond) in a number of areas: Engineering, Business/Finance/Marketing/Communications and Environmental/Construction/Land.
  • Federal Aviation Minority Service Institutions Intern Program.  Paid ($16/hour) internships seeking applicants from multiple majors (technical, industrial and business).

  • Mind & Life Institute seeks interns in the following areas: communications, philanthropy and programs.
  • NASA Langley offers a number of paid summer internships in Engineering, Accounting, Procurement, Physical Science and Technician.  Apply by the end of May for the fall semester, by mid-October for the spring semester and by March 1 for the summer session.
  • Northrop Grumman (No.Va.) has paid summer internships in Engineering, Project Management, Business & Cyber. The majority of their hiring is done in the fall for their summer internships.
  • Parra Consulting Group has HUBZone Internships to perform research, projects and conference preparation. This includes digital art/marketing, editing, and business development. You must live in a HUBZone (historically underutilized business zones) to pursue this opportunity (a small segment of Charlottesville qualifies).

  • The Koch Internship Program (KIP) seeks paid interns interested in learning more about non-profits for either spring, summer or fall. Areas include communications, fundraising, grants admin, human resources, market research, operations, education, policy/research, and technology.
  • Thomas Jefferson Foundation (Monticello) seeks Summer Interns (some paid; some unpaid) in a number of areas: Curatorial, Education, Development, Gardens, Horticulture, Human Resources, Marketing, Restoration, Videography, Special Events. 
  • UpScale Security Consulting seeks Cybersecurity and Police Science AAS Interns.
  • U.S. Department of State Student Programs - The majority are unpaid opportunities in DC and embassies around the world. Check out their Pathways Program for paid positions.
  • U.S. Department of Transportation - Summer Transportation Internship Program for Diverse Groups. Must be a sophomore to apply. Deadline: 1/31/21.
  • U.S. Forest Service / Environment for the Americas hires paid interns (with benefits) for 6-12 month internships in OH, IL, LA, NE & WV.  Apply by 7/13/20.
  • U.S. Government has a Virtual Student Federal Service program (these are remote internships in multiple government organizations).  Apply on between July 1-31/20.
  • Virginia Department of Forestry has paid summer internships ($10.50/hour) for students interested in natural resources/forestry science, conservation, and information technology and program administration. Apply by 4/12/20.
  • Virginia Government Internship site that links to multiple departments across the state.
  • Washington DC WiSE / WISH Internship Program seeks students interested in being placed into MANY different DC-based internships (housing and placement fee would apply but scholarships are available) PLUS they seek interns to support their program (unpaid but housing provided!): Photography & Graphic Design, Event Planning & Social Media, Business Management and Sales & Marketing.
  • Wolf Trap Summer Opportunities (NoVa) offers paid summer internships in Accounting, Box Office, Communications / Marketing, Development, Education and IT (apply by 2/1) and paid summer apprenticeships (apply by 3/1) in Artistic Administration, Costuming, Stage Management and Technical Theater.  For fall semester internships, apply by 7/1.

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia seeks a Data / Evaluation Intern and an Event Planning/Fundraising Intern.
  • Brooks Family YMCA seeks summer Camp Counselors, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors and more!
  • Camp LIGHT (Waynesboro) seeks summer volunteers to work with special needs and at-risk youth.
  • Hospice of the Piedmont seeks volunteers in a number of program areas - direct services to patients and families, special events including camps for kids, educational programs, health fairs, clerical services and more.
  • Jefferson Area Board of Aging (JABA) seeks volunteers to help as School-based Mentors, Insurance Counselors, Long-term Care Ombudsmen, Activity Leaders, Administrative Support and more!
  • Literacy Volunteers seeks ESL Tutors. Due to the training involved, they prefer tutors who can volunteer for a year.
  • Living Earth School, a nature connection school hires instructors, interns, kitchen staff and more for their summer program.  Apply by 3/15 (most of their hiring is done by the end of March).

  • Police science and criminal justice programs' internship opportunities have happened with the following employers:  Albemarle Co. Police Dept, Louisa Co. Sheriff's Office and Police Dept., Waynesboro Police Dept., and Virginia State Police.  We are constantly reaching out to new employers about this possibility.  Charlottesville City and UVA Police Departments are interested in hosting this once COVID is resolved.

  • Saint Nicholas Learning Center (Palmyra) seeks FT summer or PT academic year interns ages 16+ to work with children ages 3-12.
  • Sugar Hollow Girl Scout Day Camp seeks summer volunteers for 2 camp sessions (July 8-12 and/or July 15-19. If interested, fill out their survey.
  • Virginia Discovery Museum seeks volunteers to help with the front desk, the gallery, events and maintenance (you get free parking, free museum passes and fun!).
