Act quickly! Federal Work-Study positions are limited.

The annual PVCC Work-Study Job Fair will be held Thursday, August 28, at 12 p.m., in the Bolick Center Event Space.

What is the Federal Work-Study program?

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a form of need-based financial aid that provides part-time, on-campus jobs for qualifying students. FWS positions at PVCC are learning experiences. They are internship-like jobs carefully crafted to support PVCC students now, and prepare them for careers later. In addition to work, FWS students at PVCC receive additional training from dedicated staff to develop their professional skills and prepare them for the workforce.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility for Federal Work-Study is based on financial need. Students taking 6 or more credit hours may be considered for Federal Work-Study. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA is the only way to be considered for Federal Work-Study. After completing the FAFSA, interested students must fill out the Work-Study Interest Form. Receiving Federal Work-Study eligibility is not a guarantee of a job! You must submit an interest form to be considered for a FWS position.

How do I get a Federal Work-Study job?

After filling out the work-study interest form, students will be contacted by PVCC’s Work-Study Coordinator. The Work-Study Coordinator will lead students through the process of applying for a position.

Students must complete an interview before being placed into a FWS position. If selected, they will then be placed into a position on-campus.

Students should attend the FWS Job Fair to discover open positions and meet with potential supervisor-mentors. The PVCC FWS Job Fair will be held Thursday, August 28 at 12-2 p.m. in the Bolick Center Event Space.

What kind of jobs are available?

Positions across multiple departments at PVCC, including health sciences, business administration, student services, arts, the Panther Fitness Center, and humanities are available. To search through FWS positions, click here.

Why work FWS?

There are many benefits to Federal Work-Study at PVCC. Students remain in the PVCC community, can walk to their job, and receive hands-on training from PVCC staff in their field of work.

Each work-study position is tailored to prepare students for career readiness through developing the eight core competencies defined by the National Association of College and Employers. Throughout the FWS experience, students are provided continued training and feedback to develop these core competencies.

What’s the pay? How many hours?

All PVCC work-study positions pay $15 an hour. Positions generally range 10-20 hours per week. Students may only earn as much as their FWS award permits. For example, if your FWS award is $1500, you may only work 100 hours: $15/hour X 100 hours = $1500.
