Mission & Vision
Why Great Expectations?
As of April 2018, approximately 5,295 children were in foster care in Virginia, 45% of which comprise of youth ages 13 and older, 29% were 16 and older. In the Piedmont region alone, over 283 youth were projected to age out of foster care within the next 2 years. Without social and/or family support, foster youth experience significant challenges living on their own. However, with access to educational and training resources, foster youth can find fulfilling, family-sustaining employment. Great Expectations at PVCC offers support and assistance to foster youth as they work toward overcoming everyday life stressors and barriers to their academic, emotional, and financial well-being.
Our Mission:
The mission of Great Expectations at PVCC is to serve current and former foster youth by providing resources, tools, information and guidance to empower them in reaching their educational and career goals while assisting them in their transition into a healthy and successful adulthood.
Our Vision:
The vision of Great Expectations a PVCC is to witness more than half of the foster youth at PVCC receive a degree and/or credential that will move them toward self-sufficiency. We hope to be able to assist the foster youth at PVCC set and meet goals for their future including continuing their education and finding a career path that leads them to a promising future.
