Traveling Our Ancestors' Journey: A Descendants' Reunion

Musician, educator and filmmaker Horace Scruggs brings his latest projects to the Main Stage Theatre for 2 days of local history, film and music. Events kick off with this screening of his latest short film chronicling local African-American history through preserving stories from those who lived it. 

Traveling Our Ancestors' Journey: A Descendants' Reunion sees his focus turn to historical house and museum Highland, former home of fifth president of the United States James Monroe and a community of enslaved persons. The descendants of those enslaved persons continue to explore their history to tell the true story about their ancestors' lives. Scruggs shines a light on their search for deeper understanding and gestures of remembrance through personal interviews and "fly on the wall" moments.

The screening is followed up the next day with a soul-stirring concert by Scruggs and friends. 

This event is part of the PVCC Visual Arts Department's new "Films Talk Back" series, which takes place on the third Friday of the month and features popular and critically acclaimed documentaries, shown on the big screen and paired with a talk by a passionate expert–often the filmmakers themselves. Please note, no food or drink is allowed in the theatre.
