Piedmont Virginia Community College President Sworn In

Charlottesville, Va. – November 1, 2023 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) held the investiture ceremony for Dr. Jean Runyon, Friday, October 27, 2023, solidifying her official installation as the sixth president of PVCC.

The ceremony was held at the College and included voices from around the campus, the broader community and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Following a processional, nationally acclaimed all-female a cappella group HOOS in Treble from the University of Virginia performed The Star-Spangled Banner; students, staff and community speakers shared stories and proposed to Runyon areas of focus for the future; and VCCS Chancellor Dr. David Doré presented the Virginia Community College President’s Medallion and officiated her swearing in.

Dr. Charles Dassance, College Board chair noted, “Outstanding leadership is required for PVCC to continue its many contributions to the educational, economic and social development of the community and that is exactly what President Runyon is providing.”

Hired for the position April 21, 2022, after a national search, Runyon assumed the role July 1, 2022. In the past fourteen months she has worked with internal stakeholders and the community as she conducted a discovery tour to learn more about PVCC students, staff, faculty, alumni, community organizations and the regions the College serves. PVCC has also recently joined the Achieving the Dream network of colleges to accelerate transformational impact at scale for today’s students.

Runyon stated, “We are a community of practitioners who are deeply committed to access, opportunity and excellence. We are a college where generations of graduates have received an outstanding education and have gone on to find tremendous success across every professional field.” She noted that “thousands more students will imagine the possible…of earning a PVCC degree, credential, or industry certification that leads to a high-demand, high-skilled job in the years to come.”
