PVCC Hosting Night of Stand-Up Comedy with Robert Mac and Chelsea Shorte

Charlottesville, Va. – March 29, 2023 – The Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) Office of Student Engagement will host a night of stand-up comedy, Saturday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m., in the Main Stage Theatre. Self-described “unsung legend of the Washington D.C. comedy scene” Robert Mac joins forces with comic, actor and storyteller Chelsea Shorte for an evening of brainy, dead-pan comedy and riffs on everything from dating to pythons in the Everglades. The performance is open to the public.

Robert Mac was the grand-prize winner of Comedy Central’s national stand-up competition and has appeared on Last Comic Standing, The Learning Channel, Comedy Central and many shows that, he points out, have since gone off the air. He’s performed at the prestigious Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, the San Francisco Comedy Competition, and the Boston Comedy Festival, to name a few. Mac notes that he is "either a smart guy who comes off as very stupid or a stupid guy who thinks he’s very smart."

Originally from Richmond and a graduate of the University of Virginia, Chelsea Shorte discovered comedy “as a way to stave off the boredom of being a beautiful twenty-something.” Since first taking the stage as an improv comedy and stand-up performer, they have applied their creative drive to storytelling, podcasting, sketch writing, acting and drag performance. Some highlights of Shorte's career so far include performing at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and several high-profile comedy festivals.

Tickets to see Robert Mac and Chelsea Shorte are available for $10. Advance tickets may be purchased online at www.pvcc.edu/performingarts or by calling the PVCC Box Office at 434.961.5376 (major credit cards accepted). The PVCC Cashier’s Office, located in the Main Building, will also have tickets available for purchase during normal business hours. If available, tickets may also be purchased starting two hours prior to the performance at the Box Office, located in the lobby of the Dickinson Building.

The Main Stage Theatre is in the V. Earl Dickinson Building at the south end of 501 College Drive on the main campus in Charlottesville. Ample parking is located in front of the building and the theatre is wheelchair accessible.
