Local filmmaker Ty Cooper hosts documentary workshop at PVCC

As part of its 2018-19 Fine Arts and Performance Season, Piedmont Virginia Community College will host a free documentary filmmaking workshop with local filmmaker Ty Cooper on Friday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “How to Create a Documentary with Purpose” will take place on the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building on PVCC’s Main Campus in Charlottesville.

Voter Registration Week is Sept. 25-29

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, Virginians will go to the polls to elect a Governor, House of Delegates members, local office representatives and vote on state and local referendums. As part of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 26, students in PVCC's political science classes are organizing a week-long effort to register as many students, staff, and faculty as possible. 

What Happened in Charlottesville? Teach-In: Sept. 11

PVCC students, faculty, and staff are invited to a "What Happened in Charlottesville?" Teach-In on Monday, Sept. 11, from noon to 1 p.m., in the Bolick Student Center (Main Building). This event will include a panel of faculty experts discussing the events that occurred in Charlottesville on the weekend on Aug. 12. Faculty members will take turn answering questions from students and will explain the historical background of the downtown Charlottesville statues, the history of hate groups in the U.S., and the psychology of racism.

Romeo & Juliet Auditions: Aug. 24-30

PVCC students, faculty, staff, and the public are invited to audition for PVCC's upcoming production of "Romeo & Juliet."

Auditions will be held on the following dates:

  • Thursday, Aug. 24
  • Saturday, Aug. 26
  • Monday, Aug. 28
  • Wednesday, Aug. 20

All auditions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre (Black Box), located in the PVCC Dickinson Building. No preparation is required but monologues are encourated. Some movement and dance will be taught.

John Hardy returns to PVCC with his one-man play, “Rattlesnake,” on Feb. 10

Piedmont Virginia Community College will host actor and playwright John Hardy in a performance of his original play, “Rattlesnake,” on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will take place in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building as part of the college’s 2016-17 Fine Arts and Performance season.
