Students for Justice in Palestine
Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is a student organization associated with the National SJP organization, that aims to develop a student movement at PVCC that is connected, disciplined, and equipped with the tools necessary to work towards Palestinian liberation and self-determination on and around campus.
We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian national struggle and seek to encourage a movement “grounded in freedom, solidarity, equality, safety, and historical justice. We believe that Palestine's pursuit of freedom is directly connected to other oppressed groups' fight for freedom, i.e., Black liberation, LGBTQ equality, sustainability movement, etc., and we acknowledge this requires us to struggle together against state violence, colonialism, capitalism, and imperialism, in all of their forms.” *
Our goal is to create a safe environment where a community is formed and students of all backgrounds can come together to learn, skill up, and create the change we want to see in this world, for the betterment of all individuals.
*Paraphrased. From the national organization’s value statement.
All clubs and organizations are open to all full- and part-time PVCC students with the exception of the National Society of Leadership and Success and Phi Theta Kappa, which are both by invitation based on GPA.
This organization has members who are Piedmont Virginia Community College students and may have College employees associated with or engaged in its activities and affairs. These individuals are not spokespersons for the College but rather express their personal views.
