PVCC Presents Films Talk Back Featuring Georgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light

Charlottesville, Va. – January 12, 2026 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) invites the community to an in-depth evening of art history and conversation as its ”Films Talk Back” series continues with the feature-length documentary ”Georgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light.” Showing Friday, January 23, at 7 p.m., this compelling biography explores the life and art of Georgia O’Keeffe, often celebrated as the “Mother of American Modernism.” Admission is free.

Best known for her iconic large-scale flower paintings, the film weaves together O’Keeffe’s numerous artworks (more than 2,000 during her 88-year career), letters and historical context for a revealing look at the woman who rose to become an icon. Through archival footage, photographs and readings of her writings, viewers embark on a journey alongside O’Keeffe, spanning from her formative years in Charlottesville to her vibrant artistic life in New York City and eventual retreat to the serene landscapes of New Mexico.

The film features Claire Danes as the voice of Georgia O’Keeffe, with narration by Hugh Dancy. Following the screening, audiences will have the unique opportunity to engage in a discussion with writer, producer, and Academy Award-winning director Paul Wagner and co-producer Ellen Casey Wagner.

Films Talk Back screenings are held in the comfortable and spacious Main Stage Theatre on the third Friday of the month during the PVCC Fine Arts and Performance season. A curated selection of films is shown on the big screen, paired with a talk by a passionate expert–often the filmmakers themselves.
