PVCC Films Talk Back Series Continues with Night of the Living Dead

Charlottesville, Va. – October 9, 2025 – The Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) Visual Art Department continues its Films Talk Back series with a screening of the 1968 horror film “Night of the Living Dead” on Friday, October 24. Led by PVCC Professor of Sociology and horror film enthusiast and scholar Todd Platts, the talk-back following the screening will offer insights into the film and its place in cultural and social contexts of the era.

Platts will share the history of the film’s rise, from being initially received with controversy and negative reviews to becoming a landmark horror film and the quintessential zombie movie. He will also discuss the film’s critique of social and political forces of the era, and director George A. Romero’s use of a zombie apocalypse to explore what he saw as humanity’s self-destructive nature.

Films Talk Back events begin at 7 p.m. in the V. Earl Dickinson Building’s 500-seat Main Stage Theatre. The doors to the theatre open for general seating 30 minutes prior. Admission is free and no tickets are required.

Films Talk Back features a curated selection of films shown on the big screen and paired with a talk by a passionate expert. For more information, contact Chairperson of Visual and Performing Arts Fenella Belle at 434.961.5362 or fbelle@pvcc.edu.
