PVCC Announces First Half of Fine Arts and Performance Season
Charlottesville, Va. – September 5, 2025 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) announces plans for the first half of its 2025-26 Fine Arts and Performance season. The lineup features three shows in the Main Stage Theatre, open mic nights in the intimate Black Box Theatre, PVCC Gallery exhibitions and opening receptions, and perennial favorite, the Let There Be Light evening of light-based outdoor art. Events take place in the V. Earl Dickinson Building.
Headliners of the Fall 2025 roster include theatre, music, and dance performances, beginning with Mark Nizer and his 4D juggling and comedy spectacle on Saturday, September 13, at 7:30 p.m. The former International Juggling Champion’s shows are unique for their original blend of comedy antics, masterful juggling and interactive technology that has audiences donning 3D glasses to witness laser beams appear to leap from the stage. The only event of the season that requires a ticket, general seating tickets for Nizer’s family-friendly 4D performance are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
On Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m., Viva la Vida: A Musical Celebration of the Art and Times of Frida Kahlo will unfold with a melody-filled historical and cultural journey highlighting Mexican classical music and composers. Works chosen for the concert celebrate painter Frida Kahlo through the medium of guitar, and are performed by accomplished guitarist William Feasley, whose long list of awards and experiences include studying with Spanish classical guitar virtuoso Andrés Segovia.
In honor of Veteran’s Day, PVCC has paired with Charlottesville Ballet for a third year to present Salute, an afternoon of dance in remembrance of our nation’s veterans, on Saturday, November 8, at 3 p.m. The program includes the premier of new works by choreographers Keith Lee, Sarah Clayborne, and Ty Cooper Grace, along with returning favorites such as Mary Hein’s rousing A Military Fanfare.
Spoken word open mic night One Mic Stand resumes, with sessions in the Maxwell Black Box Theatre set to take place Thursdays, at 7 p.m., on September 11, and November 13, 2025, and February 12, and April 9, 2026. The free events, facilitated by comedy promoter and filmmaker Ty Cooper, offer a platform to share stories, poetry, comedy, satire and other spoken word works in a supportive environment.
The PVCC Visual Arts Department will host catered receptions for new gallery exhibitions, beginning with the Annual Faculty Art Exhibition and Playing in the Mud, opening on Friday, September 26, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibition samples a wide variety of media from the diverse team of teaching artists at PVCC, alongside a solo exhibition by master potter and Professor Emeritus Tom Clarkson. Gallery openings and exhibitions are held in the naturally lit and accessible PVCC Gallery, on the top floor of the V. Earl Dickinson Building.
Let There Be Light will illuminate the darkened grounds surrounding the V. Earl Dickinson Building on Friday, December 12, from 6-9 p.m., as a series of light-based art installations glow up one of the longest nights of the year.
