PVCC to Host Richmond Ballet for a Captivating Evening of Dance and Artistry

Charlottesville, Va. – February 27, 2025 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) continues its annual tradition of bringing Richmond Ballet, the state ballet of Virginia, to its Charlottesville audience. The performance is Wednesday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m., in the Main Stage Theatre, located in the V. Earl Dickinson Building. The company will perform an evening-length program showcasing classical ballets from its expansive repertoire and contemporary works on the cutting-edge of the art form. Part of the Spring 2025 Fine Arts and Performance season line up, this diverse program will feature the following:

  • Raymonda (pas de dix)
Choreography by Igor Antonov after Frederic Franklin
    Music by Alexander Glazunov

"The pas de dix from Raymonda is a celebration of love. A grand display of classical ballet blended with Hungarian character dance, it is sure to delight and excite audiences." - Igor Antonov

  • One Step Closer (excerpt)
    Choreography by Ricardo Graziano
    Music by Philip Glass

"The ballet is about how sometimes in life we can feel a little lost or alone and we’re not sure if we’re in the right place at the right time. But we just have to remember that we’re always one step closer to finding our person, finding our place, finding ourselves." - Ricardo Graziano

  • Triple Step
    Choreography by Ira White
Music by Alex da Kid, Gil Scott-Heron, Jamie xx

"This music is all jazz music. And I grew up listening to it. My grandfather was a jazz musician. It’s kind of within my blood to have an affinity towards this sort of music. So, I’m really looking forward to, in a way, sharing my lineage through my movement and my musical choices." - Ira White

  • En Chalant
    Choreography by Ma Cong
Music by Nils Frahm, Hauschka, and Jóhann Jóhannsson

"The title for my ballet is called En Chalant. It's the complete opposite of nonchalant. This work, it's just really full of emotions, energy, and passions. It's all about the physical and emotional response to the music." - Ma Cong
