PVCC Manufacturing Day Event to Highlight Industry and Career Pathways
Charlottesville, Va. – September 27, 2024 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) will celebrate National Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) Friday, October 4, presenting a platform for attendees to discover the world of modern manufacturing. The MFG Day event is free and open to the public, and will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Woodrow W. Bolick Advanced Technology and Student Success Center (The Bolick Center) on the main campus.
MFG Day is designed to show what modern manufacturing is about. Thousands of companies and educational institutions nationwide open their doors to students, parents, educators and community leaders and empower manufacturers and educators to come together to build excitement about manufacturing careers that help communities and future generations thrive.
PVCC President Jean Runyon said, “PVCC prepares students for today’s jobs and tomorrow’s opportunities.” Runyon added, “Light manufacturing is one of the priority industry clusters in our region. It is our hope that Manufacturing Day raises the visibility of career opportunities in this industry sector.”
Attendees at PVCC’s MFG Day will participate in a variety of experiential activities and demonstrations to learn about manufacturing and available careers in the region. Participants will gain insight into programs and training pathways available at PVCC and can interact with industry tools and technology in hands-on lab workshops. The morning will include an employer panel discussion, CNC milling, robotics, mechatronics and simulator demonstrations, as well as Bolick Center tours.
“The Engineering Technology program at PVCC teaches our students the technical skills required to be successful in advanced manufacturing in our region. We are closely aligned with our industry partners because manufacturing technologies are ever changing. We keep our courses up to date with the latest skills and equipment,” shared Program Director for Advanced Manufacturing Ken Welborn.
