PVCC Free Movie Friday Features Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint

Charlottesville, Va. – March 7, 2023 – The Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) Fine Arts and Performance season continues with the “Free Movie Friday” series, March 17, at 7:30 p.m., featuring a screening of the 2019 biographical documentary “Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint.” The film, which explores the life of the visionary female abstract artist, will be shown in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building on the main campus in Charlottesville.

German filmmaker Halina Dyrschka’s feature debut unveils Swedish artist Hilma af Klint’s remarkable revelations in her awe-inspiring works and the hurdles she faced as a woman artist working in the early 1900s. Through excerpts from her own writings and interviews with academics, artists and some of af Klint’s own relatives, the movie builds a portrait of her troubling life from youth to death and shows how, one hundred years later, she became a popular discovery who has attracted millions of fans worldwide.

The Free Movie Friday series is held on the third Friday of the month and features interesting, popular and critically acclaimed movies shown free of charge. For more information, contact Associate Professor of Art Fenella Belle at fbelle@pvcc.edu or call 434.961.5362.

The V. Earl Dickinson Building is located at the south end of College Drive. Ample, free parking is available and the building is wheelchair accessible.
