PVCC to Host Discussion with VMDO Architects - Designers of the Woodrow W. Bolick Advanced Technology and Student Success Center

Charlottesville, Va. – February 10, 2023 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) will host VMDO Architects in a discussion about the design of the Woodrow W. Bolick Advanced Technology and Student Success Center (ATSSC), under construction at PVCC. VMDO Director of Sustainability and Inclusion Michelle Amt, and VMDO Lead Architect Kim Thompson Smith, will share insight about the building’s design, including the high-performance building strategies being used in its construction. The event will be held at PVCC Wednesday, February 22, 2023, from 12-1 p.m., in the Main Building Auditorium, room 229.

Community members, students, alumni and friends are invited to attend and learn about VMDO’s approach to educational design, sustainable architecture and the measures being taken to reduce the environmental impact of the ATSSC. As the first net zero energy community college project in Virginia, the nearly 37,000 square-foot Center will serve as a new campus landmark that showcases PVCC’s commitment to future-focused workforce training and career development for the region. The Center is on track for a January 2024 opening.

“We are pleased to be leading the way by constructing this net zero energy building that incorporates energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies,” shared PVCC President Jean Runyon. “Not only will the Woodrow W. Bolick Advanced Technology and Student Success Center be a hub for talent creation and student success, the Center will also model the importance of sustainable practices for our community.”

The ATSSC will include advanced manufacturing, robotics, cybersecurity and forensics labs, instructional spaces, active learning classrooms, administrative offices, a café, event space and student meeting spaces. Advising and other student support services will be housed in the new facility, providing everything students need to begin their journey at PVCC.
