PVCC to Host One Mic Stand Spoken Word Open Mic Event

Charlottesville, Va. – January 31, 2023 – The Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) Fine Arts and Performance Division will hold the next installment of its “One Mic Stand” spoken word open mic series, Thursday, February 9, at 7:00 p.m. The event serves as a platform for a variety of spoken word works to be shared and is free and open to the public. Those who are interested in performing may sign up at the PVCC Box Office starting at 6 p.m., the day of the event.

Hosted by filmmaker, promoter and “United Nations of Comedy Tour” founder Ty Cooper, One Mic Stand offers an opportunity for both seasoned artists and up-and-comers to perform and enjoy the mix of talents and styles that others have to offer. Past performances have featured storytelling, poetry, comedy, satire and more. No experience is required to participate. 

The performances will take place in the Maxwell Black Box Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building, on the PVCC main campus in Charlottesville. No late seating is allowed due to limited seating in the Maxwell Black Box Theatre.
