PVCC to Host Woodrow W. Bolick Advanced Technology and Student Success Center Beam Signing

Charlottesville, Va. – January 5, 2023 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) will host a beam signing for the new Woodrow W. Bolick Advanced Technology and Student Success Center, January 11, 2023, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. This ceremony will be held on the main campus in the North Mall Meeting Room (#228), in the main building.

Community partners, students, alumni and friends are invited to attend the ceremony, see the Center’s progress and add their names to the project by signing a steel beam that will be installed during construction. This beam signing is a symbolic nod to the building’s intended purpose to serve students and create a pipeline of talent in the community for generations to come. The beam will remain in place at the North Entrance of PVCC from 12:30 p.m., January 11, through 5 p.m., January 12, for those who would like to stop by to add their name or message.

“The beam signing ceremony commemorates construction progress for our new Advanced Technology and Student Success Center. The approximately $26 million project has been made possible through a combination of funding from the Commonwealth, local municipalities in the College’s service region, and the PVCC Educational Foundation. We are extremely grateful for the incredible community support we have received and for the motivated donors who believe in PVCC, our graduates and the power of education,” shared PVCC Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development Harry Stillerman.

The two-story 45,000 square-foot Center is set to be a Net Zero Energy Building and will be the first in the Virginia Community College System to use 100 percent alternative energy. The new Center is on track for a January 2024 opening.

“As we celebrate 50 years of excellence and impact, we are building for the future. This new facility will ensure PVCC students are prepared for in-demand careers and supported on their journey to enter the workforce, earn a credential, or transfer to a four-year university or college,” expressed PVCC President Jean Runyon.

The Woodrow W. Bolick Advanced Technology and Student Success Center includes advanced manufacturing, robotics, cybersecurity and forensics labs, instructional spaces, active learning classrooms, administrative offices, a café, event space and student meeting spaces. Advising and other student support services will be housed in the new facility, providing everything new students need to begin their journey at PVCC. The building will be a vibrant hub for academic life, showcasing PVCC’s comprehensive commitment to student success.
