Piedmont Virginia Community College to Kick Off 50 Year Anniversary

Charlottesville, Va. – September 27,  2022 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) announces it’s 50 year anniversary and will kick off the celebration with a “PVCC is Golden” birthday party today, commemorating the first day of classes in September of 1972.

The kick off begins a nine-month celebration of PVCC’s evolution and plans for the future. A series of celebratory, reflective and scholarly activities will honor distinctive and innovative elements of PVCC’s approach to education and workforce training, characterized by a unique focus on student access and success, and community wellness and growth. In sharing stories from its past and highlighting excellence in the present – from and about students, staff, faculty, area business partners and community members – PVCC will bring to life the impact and power of education.

Alumni, students, friends, staff and the community are invited to participate in future events and join in on honoring the accomplishments and successes that paved the way for today’s Piedmont Virginia Community College.

“PVCC was founded on the bold belief that education has the power to transform lives and communities. This momentous milestone provides an opportunity to reflect, to celebrate, and to look towards the next 50 years of excellence and impact as the “community’s” college,” shared PVCC President Jean Runyon.

For more information on 50 years at PVCC or to share your story, visit 50-years.pvcc.edu or contact co-chairs Susian Brooks (sbrooks@pvcc.edu) or Harry Stillerman (hstillerman@pvcc.edu). Everyone is invited to follow PVCC on social media, share PVCC memories and include #pvcc50.
