PVCC Announces Pay Increase for Wage Employees

Charlottesville, Va. – June 15, 2021 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) announces an increase in pay for its wage employees and federal work-study students, effective July 1, 2021. PVCC made a similar investment in all full-time employees several years ago and is committed to providing pay rates that allow for economic self-sufficiency for all employees. The increase to a minimum hourly pay of $15 better reflects the cost of living and is deemed to be crucial in moving the college forward by attracting employees from across the region. The current hourly minimum wage in Virginia is $9.50 per hour.

“The last 16 months have been tough and the time is right for PVCC to offer a $15 hourly rate for wage employees and students in the federal work-study program. The change reflects an increase of $2.65 for the lowest paid wage employee and $5.50 for work-study students,” stated Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services Ben Copeland.

Work-study jobs allow students to go to class and work on campus, providing flexible hours to accommodate coursework and extra-curricular activities. Work-study positions offer valuable experience that gives students the knowledge and skills to enhance their résumés and prepare for future jobs.

Approximately 45 PVCC employees will receive the increase when the policy goes into effect.
