PVCC TJACE Faculty Member Rebecca Payton Wins Virginia Association for Adult and Continued Education Teacher of the Year Award
Charlottesville, Va. – December 2, 2020 – Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) Thomas Jefferson Adult and Career Education (TJACE) instructor Rebecca Payton is the 2020 Joan E.D. Kushnir Teacher of the Year. The Virginia Association for Adult and Continuing Education (VAACE) selects one individual annually for this prestigious award. The VAACE is an association of adult education practitioners, including city and county adult programs, extension services, government, industry, health services, higher education and non-profit organizations.
Ms. Payton has been a member of the TJACE@PVCC team for two years, serving as a teacher, career coach, Integrated Education and Training coordinator, National External Diploma Program assessor and instructional coach. She joined PVCC in 2017 as the Adult Career Coach in the Network2Work@PVCC Elevate Program with many years of prior adult education experience in her home state of West Virginia.
“Becky is such a valued member of our TJACE team,” stated TJACE@PVCC Director Carol Coffey. “She joined us two years ago and immediately jumped in to help build our career pathway programs and improve our high school credentialing program instruction. Her teaching expertise is evident both as a direct instructor in Integrated Education and Training programs, and as an instructional coach with our Adult Basic Education teachers. Becky was also selected to participate on the “Teaching Skills that Matter” state leadership team. She is truly committed to helping our students thrive, thereby, helping our community,” Coffey concluded.
