PVCC Announces Dr. Christy Hawkins as New Dean of Workforce Services
Charlottesville, Va. – November 17, 2020 – Piedmont Virginia Community College welcomes new Dean of Workforce Services Dr. Christy D. Hawkins, effective November 16, 2020. Dr. Hawkins joins PVCC and the Charlottesville community having most recently served as Dean of Health and Human Services at Haywood Community College in North Carolina. Her commitment to higher education and adult training includes prior work in the Virginia Community College System at Thomas Nelson Community College, in Hampton/Williamsburg, Virginia, where she gained seventeen years of leadership experience across a variety of college units.
“We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Hawkins join us in this crucial role in Workforce Services,” said PVCC Vice President for Instruction and Student Services John Donnelly. “She comes to us with an outstanding knowledge of the significance of community engagement and relationship building necessary for continued success in workforce services, especially during the current economic situation,” he added.
At PVCC Workforce Services, Dr. Hawkins will oversee the college’s non-credit workforce training and development programs that provide high-quality instruction and hands-on skills for in-demand careers in our region. Workforce Services offers professional development and continuing education programs leading to licensure and industry certifications as well as youth career awareness and exploration programs.
Dr. Hawkins succeeds Dean Valerie Palamountain who is retiring after sixteen years of outstanding leadership and support of workforce development in Central Virginia.
