PVCC to Hold Annual Public Safety UAS Conference

Charlottesville, Va. – February 24, 2020Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) will hold its annual Public Safety UAS Conference Monday, March 2, through Wednesday, March 4, 2020. The event will be held at King Family Vineyards, located at 6550 Roseland Farm in Crozet, Virginia. This conference brings together leading experts in law enforcement, public safety, search and rescue, emergency services and disaster relief who have integrated drones into their operations. The summit is not open to the general public.

Secretary Brian Moran of the Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security in Virginia and PVCC Workforce Services Dean Valerie Palamountain will offer opening remarks on March 2, from 8-9 a.m. The three-day conference will include workshops, breakout sessions, networking events and disaster and response scenario demonstrations.

About the PVCC UAS Program
PVCC launched its UAS program in 2015 and was the first college in the nation to receive an FAA certificate of authorization to conduct research and development of small, unmanned aerial systems for public safety. The college held its initial class for first responders in 2016, setting the standard for training programs across the country. Since inception, PVCC has trained over 250 individuals in this field and more than a dozen agencies, including federal, state and local personnel, in UAS technology, operations and integration.
