PVCC Fine Arts and Performance Season Continues Free Movie Friday With Queen & Slim

Charlottesville, Va. – February 10, 2020 – The Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) Fine Arts and Performance season continues with “Free Movie Friday” on February 21, at 7:30 p.m., featuring a screening of the 2019 drama “Queen & Slim.” The film will be shown in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building on the main campus in Charlottesville.

The film, written by the Emmy award-winner Lena Waithe and starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith, follows an African-American couple on the run after their first date involves killing a cop in self-defense during a traffic stop. As they try to avoid capture, they are confronted on their journey by echoes of racist legacies, but the couple’s connection to one another grows in spite of their race to outrun the various forces that threaten their lives.

Queen & Slim is rated R for violence, some strong sexuality, nudity, pervasive language and brief drug use. Tickets to the film will be handed out, one per person, as the doors to the theatre open at 6 p.m. No advance tickets are available.

The PVCC Student Art Club sponsors the Free Movie Friday series on the third Friday of the month. Popular and critically acclaimed movies are shown free of charge on the big screen. For more information, contact Beryl Solla at bsolla@pvcc.edu or call 434.961.5362.

The V. Earl Dickinson Building is located at the south end of College Drive. Ample, free parking is available and the building is wheelchair accessible.
