Piedmont Virginia Community College will host African drum and dance ensemble Ezibu Muntu on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building, located on the college’s Main Campus in Charlottesville.

Adorned in brightly patterned clothing and accompanied by high-energy drumming in what online magazine Urban Views Weekly described as “truly thrilling performances of visual and musical power,” Ezibu Muntu’s energetic presentations are a spectacular display of the customs and traditions of Africa. With its powerful synthesis of rhythm, dance and song and its commitment to authentic presentation, the group has become widely recognized as the premiere African dance company in Virginia.

Ezibu Muntu African Dance and Culturale Foundation is a Richmond-based non-profit dedicated to the preservation and performance of traditional African cultural arts. Since its founding in 1973, the group has grown to offer educational and artistic programming to communities throughout Virginia, in Washington D.C., New York City, North Carolina and more. They appeared in Oliver Stone’s 1991 film, “JFK,” as well as in a music video for the Grammy-winning Dave Matthews Band.

Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. General seating tickets are available for purchase online at www.pvcc.edu/performingarts, by calling the PVCC Box Office at 434.961.5376 (major credit cards accepted) or by visiting Greenberry’s Coffee (Barracks Road Shopping Center) or the PVCC Cashier’s Office during normal business hours.
