Piedmont Virginia Community College will continue its 2018-19 Fine Arts and Performance season with a performance by Japanese traditional drumming ensemble “OMNY Taiko” on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m., in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building on the college’s Main Campus in Charlottesville.

OMNY Taiko’s performances are a dynamic display of the ancient Japanese art of Taiko drumming. Playing with speed and strength on deeply resonant drums, some as large as a wine barrel, accompanied by tightly choreographed movements reminiscent of martial arts, the group is known for its precise playing style and joyful presentation.

Based in New York and under the instruction of Grammy award-winning Taiko master Koji Nakamura Sensei, OMNY Taiko views Taiko drumming primarily as a spiritual practice, performing across the U.S. in service of its mission to “play as one to unite the hearts of all.” The group shares its passion for the beauty of Taiko to connect with diverse audiences through a universal musical language.

Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
