John McCutcheon returns to PVCC for an evening of old favorites and new works April 22

John McCutcheon

Piedmont Virginia Community College will host singer-songwriter John McCutcheon on Saturday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will take place in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building on PVCC’s Main Campus in Charlottesville as part of the 2016-17 Fine Arts and Performance season.

McCutcheon is internationally renowned for his tuneful and earnest folk songs, his penchant for telling a good story, and his expansive talent on a multitude of traditional instruments. He is a master of more than a dozen, including the banjo, guitar, fiddle, autoharp, jaw harp, and the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer.

His live performances have won praise around the globe, from an Australian critic as "the most overwhelming folk performer in the English language," to a Russian critic as "the most versatile and compelling performer this reviewer has ever seen," and from music legend Johnny Cash as "the most impressive instrumentalist I've ever heard." His recordings have garnered numerous honors including seven Grammy nominations.

The program at PVCC will feature both old favorites and new works included in McCutcheon’s recently released 38th album “Trolling for Dreams.”

Ticket prices are $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.
