Maggie Nicholas Spirit Award
Coordinator for Student Life and Campus Engagement Mary-Evelyn Sellars has received the 2024 Maggie Nicholas Spirit Award. As shared in her nomination, Sellars “has an unparalleled ability to make everyone feel seen, valued and appreciated. Whether she is calling over staff to join in an event or conversation, sharing a warm smile or offering encouragement, she brings an infectious joy to every interaction.”
Maggie Nicholas was a part of the PVCC community for many years, serving in multiple capacities. At the time of her passing she served as the PVCC Receptionist. She was often the first face and voice of PVCC that students and visitors encountered. Nicholas was a cancer survivor and spent many hours serving the needs of those struggling with the disease, including raising funds for research. She was a bright star on the PVCC campus, always willing to help and always serving students, staff and faculty with a smile. Nicholas personified strength, courage, positive energy and patience. She passed away September 27, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident.
The Maggie Nicholas Spirt Award was created in 2005 to honor Nicholas’s memory and is given annually to a staff member who carries a positive attitude and commitment to service.
