Join Fluvanna County's own musician and filmmaker Horace Scruggs for a talkback following a screening of his latest short documentary on local history. The film tells the moving story of a community’s effort to identify and memorialize individuals buried in unmarked graves at a Reconstruction-era African American cemetery.

Located at West Bottom Baptist Church in southern Fluvanna County, Virginia, Oak Hill Cemetery began as a burial ground for enslaved and newly emancipated people who labored on nearby James River plantations. Engraved is a testament to perseverance, family, and community—and to preserving the untold stories of rural African American life.
