Documentary filmmaking is a powerful medium that can inspire a sense of shared humanity and bring important topics to the forefront. With a host of new technologies available, aspiring documentarians can bring their stories to the screen more easily than ever before. This workshop with Ty Cooper will guide participants through the process of capturing images and telling stories they are passionate about, from the first spark of an idea to the final cut.
Topics to be covered include technological and creative tools for capturing and editing moving images, planning and funding a project, formulating a subject in creative ways to capture an audience’s attention, and gathering compelling visual elements to support the narrative with purpose and integrity. Participants will have the chance to acquire hands on experience with camera and audio equipment, recording on-site, and interviewing.
Ty Cooper is a Charlottesville-based entertainment promoter, writer, and filmmaker. Cooper is currently in the final stages of completing his full-length documentary addressing the ramifications of the lack of universal access to early childhood education in America.
