From curator Fenella Belle: Looking Small, Thinking Big is an exhibition designed to complement the school-wide "one book" focus on The Song of the Cell: An Exploration of Medicine and the New Human by Siddhartha Mukherjee. Taking inspiration from Mukherjee’s premise that the study of a single cell can lead to a discussion of many large ideas, this exhibition will feature a group of artists who use narrowed focus as a vehicle to address broad ideas.
In a companion exhibition in the South Gallery, Drawn To Light, Deborah Davis makes paintings that celebrate a small, largely invisible and often ignored insect–the moth. Davis’s large scale paintings of moths bring this under-appreciated cousin of the butterfly out of the dark and into the spotlight. Startling and gorgeous, these intriguing paintings give us a new window into the beauty of these shy but important pollinators.
The PVCC Gallery is located on the 3rd floor of the V. Earl Dickinson Building. Hours are Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday: 1 to 5 p.m. The gallery is also open during all evening performances that are part of the PVCC Fine Arts and Performance season.
