Global ARTivism
The PVCC Art Department has partnered with the University of Virginia's Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese to present Global ARTivism, an international contemporary art exhibition exploring Afro-descendant and Indigenous experiences as part of the year-long project Bridging Hemispheres Through Contemporary Afro-Argentinian ARTivism, led by Dr. Nicole Bonino.
By connecting contemporary Argentine artistic practices with the Charlottesville community, the exhibition encourages dialogue and deeper exploration of identity, race, migration and belonging.

- Gaby Messina: Raíces de una Argentina Afro (Roots of an Afro Argentine)

Artist Reception: Thursday, October 8, 5 to 7 p.m.
Through photography, audiovisual work and installation, Argentinian visual artist Gaby Messina examines Afro-Argentine histories, identities and lived experiences. Her work challenges narratives that have historically rendered Afro-descendant communities invisible within Argentina's national identity, bringing their stories and cultural contributions into view.
- Mirta Toledo: Pura Diversidad: Mujeres, Raíces y Migrantes en Argentina (Pure Diversity: Women, Roots and Migrants in Argentina)

Artist Reception: Tuesday, October 27, 5 to 7 p.m.
Visual artist and writer Mirta Toledo explores themes of diversity, migration, identity, memory and belonging through portraits centered on women, migrants, Indigenous communities and Afro-descendant identities, illuminating experiences that expand traditional narratives of Argentine identity.

A showcase of works in a wide variety of media created by PVCC's talented team of teaching artists, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the diverse creative practices represented within the college's Art Department.

The PVCC Gallery is located on the third floor of the V. Earl Dickinson Building. Free parking is available in Lot 4.
Hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery also opens during scheduled events and performances.
