Professor Jennifer Koster is a recipient of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) 2021 Outstanding Faculty Award. 

The Outstanding Faculty Award is the Commonwealth's highest honor for faculty at Virginia's public and private colleges and universities. These awards recognize superior accomplishments in teaching, research, and public service. Of the 12 SCHEV award recipients, Ms. Koster represents the only community college in the list of awardee institutions.

PVCC students Sophia Keniston and Jacob Laxton were selected as Valley Proteins Fellows by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education. They are the tenth and eleventh PVCC students selected for this prestigious scholarship program since its inception in 2000.

PVCC receives a platinum seal for achieving a student rate above 50% in 2019's ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. The challenge is a nonpartisan, national initiative recognizing and supporting campuses as they work to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and full student voter participation.  

PVCC student intern Hannah Thacker was selected as one of ten students on the inaugural ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Student Honor Role.

PVCC students Elena Cantwell and Kibiriti Majuto were selected as Valley Proteins Fellows for 2018-2019. They are the eighth and ninth PVCC students selected for this prestigious scholarship program since its inception in 2000.

President Friedman receives the 2018 Carol Luthman Meritorious Service Award from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).  The annual award recognizes outstanding service to the SACSCOC, including volunteerism, leadership, and commitment to the principles of accreditation.

PVCC student Nicholas Baldi was selected as a Valley Proteins Fellow for 2012-2013. Of the 400,000 people Virginia's Community Colleges serve across the Commonwealth, only 10 were selected for this prestigious award.

Professor of English Jessica Kingsley was selected by PVCC faculty as the nominee for the 2012 Outstanding Faculty Award which is presented annually by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). She was also PVCC's nominee for the VCCS Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence.

Assistant Professor Richard Cappuccio and Professor Andrew Smith were selected as National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Scholars to study at one of NEH's Landmarks of American History and Culture workshops.

PVCC students Lauren Hippert and Kennith Brandon are named to the All-USA Community College Academic Team, the annual program that recognizes outstanding two-year college students. Hippert was named one of the top 10 community college students in Virginia.

The 2011 PVCC Distinguished Student Award was presented to Charlottesville resident Lee Stone, a student in the nursing program and president of the Student Government Association.

PVCC student Jonathan Motlagh is named the top community college student in Virginia. He is the fifth PVCC student to be so honored and the College's first to receive the prestigious Guistwhite Scholarship for his academic achievement and service to PVCC and the community.
