History of the PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center
For a number of years, the citizens of Greene County wanted Piedmont Virginia Community College to offer classes in their county. The opportunity for a college facility finally came in 2010 when PVCC was invited by the Greene County Board of Supervisors to occupy the second floor of the Greene County Library in Stanardsville.
The County offered PVCC use of the library's unfinished second floor at a cost of $1 annually for a 25-year lease. During 2011 and 2012, PVCC raised more than $900,000 required to build out, furnish and operate the Center. The facility is slated to offer classes beginning in August 2012 with the start-up of PVCC's fall semester.
The Center is named after the late Eugene Giuseppe, who died in 2006 and was for many years the principal of the Greene County Primary School.
The PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center increases access to PVCC programs and services for Charlottesville residents and those living in the high-growth areas of northern Albemarle and Greene counties. For the many students who currently drive to PVCC's campus in southern Albemarle County for classes, the PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center will save them money and time spent on commuting.
