Carpenter Society

To recognize those who have invested in Piedmont Virginia Community College and have realized the important legacy a planned gift creates, the PVCC Educational Foundation established the Carpenter Society.

The Carpenter Society honors the philanthropic legacy of Grace Carpenter, who has served as chair of the College Board and president of the Educational Foundation Board of Directors. Ms. Carpenter is the recipient of the PVCC Medallion, the highest nonacademic honor bestowed by the College, and in 2008 was recognized by the Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System as a philanthropic leader in the Commonwealth.

Ms. Carpenter's support for PVCC, which extends to her estate, reflects the evolution of her involvement with the College. Encouraged to seek appointment to the College Board by then-president George Vaughan, she began a "personal journey" to "bring Piedmont off the hill." Later, when she joined the Educational Foundation Board, she successfully convinced many friends and colleagues that supporting the Foundation provided an open door by which the community could participate. Her pitch? "Where would this community be without PVCC?" She has a special message for friends and alumni of PVCC as they undertake their estate planning. "Remember what PVCC did for you and how important private dollars are for its future."
