The Cost of Attendance (COA) is an estimate of how much it will cost to attend PVCC for one academic year (fall and spring semesters). The COA comprises of several key components that includes both direct expenses, such as tuition, fees, books, and supplies, as well as indirect expenses, such as housing, food, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. The COA listed below for the 2024-2025 academic year is based on full-time enrollment in 15 credit hours. Actual costs will vary for each student based on the number of credit hours they are taking each semester, and their individual needs.

Budget components in the COA include:

  • Tuition and Fees - courses and required materials.

  • Books and Supplies - textbooks, materials, and other supplies needed for courses.
  • Room and Board (living expenses) - housing and food, living with parent(s) or on your own.

  • Transportation - travel expenses for commuting to and from campus and work.

  • Miscellaneous Expenses - this can vary but includes costs that are not captured elsewhere, like student loan fees or specific program fees.

For students enrolled less than half-time (1 to 5 credit hours), the COA includes tuition and fees, books and supplies, and transportation.

The Financial Need Formula

To determine grant aid eligibility, a student’s financial need, the PVCC Financial Aid Office subtracts your Student Aid Index (SAI) from the estimated COA. The SAI is an index number used to determine how much federal and or state aid a student may be eligible to receive towards their educational expenses. The SAI is calculated based on the information that you submitted on your FAFSA or VASA application. All grants and the Federal Direct Stafford Subsidized Loan cannot exceed the amount of demonstrated financial need. The total aid packaged including grants, scholarships, Federal Direct Stafford Subsidized, Unsubsidized and Parent PLUS Loans cannot exceed the student's COA at PVCC.

If the cost to attend PVCC is greater than your SAI, you demonstrate financial need.
