WELCOME TO THE 2023 PVCC STUDENT ART EXHIBITION

WOW! What a year! The art department has been a lively and creative place this academic year.I am always amazed at the creativity of our students, but this year feels extra special as our exhibition is a combination of students from in-person classes, online classes, and, for the first time ever, classes for incarcerated students in three local prisons.

People often ask me “Why should I take an art class?” Just look at the walls of this gallery – the answer is everywhere. Our students’ reasons for taking art classes are as varied as the students themselves. Some take classes to pursue a career in the arts, while others seek a creative balance to their science or computer studies. Many seek to use their voice in a way they can’t express elsewhere. No matter their reasons, all of our students learn practical artistic techniques while also building communication skills, community bonds and self-confidence.

In this effort, they are guided by our dedicated and endlessly creative faculty:

  • Fenella Belle: 2D Design and Art Appreciation
  • Tom Clarkson: Ceramics, all levels
  • Todd Free: Photography and Video
  • Lou Haney: Painting and Art History
  • Aaron Miller: Computer Graphics Czar, Painting and Drawing
  • Ed Miller: 3D Design and Art Appreciation in the prison program.
  • Jeremy Taylor: Drawing, Printmaking and Typography
  • Jonah Tobias: Computer Graphics
  • Rick Weaver: Painting and Drawing
  • Rebekah Wostrel: Art History and Art Appreciation

Many thanks to the Humanities Division and staff for their support: Dean Dr. Leonda Williams-Keniston, Bill Hurd, Morgan Tanner, Maggie Flinn, Josh Reid, Chris McDaniels, Cole Wyant, Ava Peymani, Azin Peymani and our wonderful art department student worker bee Morgan Bell.

Thanks also to Dr. Jean Runyon, who has been clear in her support of the arts in her first year as president of PVCC
