PVCC Annual Student Art Exhibition (2022)
Every year, we look forward to the annual student art exhibition. It’s a chance to see what the students have been up to in the classes of our “below the radar” art department. This year’s return to an actual, physical exhibition in our galleries makes it even sweeter.
With the transition from pre- to post-Covid, there was a tangible re-awakening in the art department as many students returned to in-person classes. Still, after two years of working in relative isolation, it was hard to gauge how many students would be willing to put their artistic efforts out into the glare of the public eye. The act of making art is generally a solo endeavor – hours spent alone in front of a computer or erasing and re-drawing on your kitchen table. While art classes can build community and skills, students have to find their own courage to share their creations with the outside world. This is the reason I am so thrilled to see how many students stepped up to share their art work – they demonstrate the diversity and strength of the art being made in our new hybrid world.
All of this is only possible thanks to our dedicated and endlessly creative faculty. From studio classes to art history, our faculty nurture and challenge our students to build their knowledge and to refine their skills. Our Visual Arts faculty (in alphabetical order) include:
- Fenella Belle: Fundamentals of Design: 2D, Art History and Art Appreciation
- Tom Clarkson: Ceramics, all levels
- Todd Free: Computer Graphics and Photography
- Lou Haney: Painting and Art History
- Aaron Miller: Computer Graphics, Painting and Drawing
- Ed Miller: Fundamentals of Design: 2D and Sculpture
- Jeremy Taylor: Drawing, Printmaking and Typography
- Jonah Tobias: Computer Graphics
- Rick Weaver: Painting and Drawing
