Supporting Students

Logo for First Gen PVCC

The Student Opportunity Success and Achievement Center (SOSAC) serves as the primary support hub for first-generation and limited-income students at Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC). Our mission is to empower, support, and advocate for students who may face unique challenges in navigating the college experience. Through student-centered programming, we connect students with a wide network of services and resources available at PVCC — including social engagement opportunities, career development support, and both academic and non-academic assistance.

What Does First Generation Mean?

At PVCC we define a first-generation college student as a student whose parents/guardians did not obtain some form of college education. However, the Student Opportunity and Achievement Center is an inclusive space for all students.
