The Learning Center's Mission
It is the mission of Piedmont Virginia Community College's The Learning Center to help members of the campus community develop the skills necessary to achieve their academic potential. To that end, TLC provides support through tutoring most subjects offered at the College, academic coaching and time and stress management, as well as giving special assistance to LD (learning disabled) and ESL (English for speakers of other languages) students. The TLC facilitates these services in two ways. First, TLC tutors work with students one-on-one, tailoring services to meet the student's individual needs. Furthermore, because TLC works through collaborative learning, TLC benefits tutors by preparing them for the professional world. In an effort to provide the best service possible, TLC regularly evaluates the training of its staff and its approach to serving the Piedmont community. In all its ventures, TLC aims to provide a comfortable, professional environment and a friendly, service-oriented staff.
