Can I transfer to a four-year college or university after one year or less at PVCC?
Yes, however, it is to your advantage to complete an associate degree program for several reasons:

• Without an associate degree, most four-year colleges and universities will still consider your high school and standardized test scores in addition to your PVCC coursework.
• Many schools give admission preference to students who have completed their transfer associate degrees.
• In many cases, if you have a transfer associate degree, you will have fulfilled the general education requirements of a four-year college or university and can enter with junior standing.

What are general education requirements?
General education requirements are classes not related to a student's major that fulfill the basic requirements for any higher-education degree program. These required classes are similar within each college or university and usually include basic classes in writing, English, math, art and science.

Will all my PVCC class credits transfer?
In most cases yes; however, some PVCC courses such as pre-college level, occupational or technical courses are not designed to transfer to four-year colleges or universities. In addition, classes for which you receive a grade below "C" generally do not transfer. Contact the PVCC Transfer Counselor to discuss how best to transfer your individual class credits.

When should I start planning to transfer?
It's never too early to start the transfer process. The longer you wait to make a decision, the more you risk delaying your degree. See the Four Year College Application Checklist for more information.

When should I apply to a four-year school?
Generally, application deadlines for fall enrollment at a four-year college or university are in March or April. If you are in a PVCC transfer degree program, you should submit your applications for admission and financial aid during the third semester of your PVCC program. What is Guaranteed Admission?
Students who graduate with a PVCC transfer associate degree and meet the minimum grade point average and other requirements of the four-year institution to which they plan to transfer, are eligible for guaranteed admission to select four-year institutions or programs. Who is responsible for telling me what I need to do to transfer?
You are! Students intending to transfer are responsible for planning their own course of study to meet the requirements of the institution to which they transfer. PVCC offers many resources to assist you with planning your transfer program; however, it's up to you to seek out the information necessary to develop your course of study.
