Academic Support Services employs academic coaches, receptionists, and tutors in the First Quadrant Math Center and the Writing Center. It also hires peer mentors and Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) facilitators. All prospective employees must submit a completed Virginia Employment Application and a position-specific application (see below).

Mentors are PVCC students who help new students transition to college, get involved in the PVCC community, and become connected with resources that will help them achieve their education and career goals. Mentors also serve as role models in the SDV class by asking questions, engaging in discussions, and modeling expected classroom behavior. Peer Mentor Application. Receptionists staff front desk in the Writing Center or the First Quadrant Math Center, or both. Greet and assist students as needed, complete administrative tasks, and assist with special projects. Receptionist Application. Applicants must qualify for federal work study.
Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) Facilitators

Tutors typically specialize in a few subjects, and they help students who are struggling with concepts or processes or who want to strengthen their knowledge in a particular subject. Tutor Application. ALL POSITIONS FILLED.
