Focus Women's Resource Center

FOCUS Women's Resource Center is dedicated to providing support for women and their families and to assist them in exploring, developing and achieving their full potential. Their programs include: counseling, job training and placement, mediation and career development through community outreach. Volunteers may become a peer, career or personal issues counselor, help with facilities management, donate clothes/household goods to the FOCUS Flea Market, volunteer at the flea market, assist women in finding a job or returning to school, be a mentor.

Charlottesville Pregnancy Center

The Charlottesville Pregnancy Center is open to women who are pregnant in difficult circumstances. They offer free counseling and information on all options and alternatives, as well as medical referrals, labor coaching and support groups. Volunteers can help by collecting/donating maternity and baby clothes, supplies and furniture, drive women to and from doctor's appointments, provide child care, volunteer to be a counselor or part of a support group, listen.

Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge, Inc., a non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing confidential, respectful and affordable reproductive Health-Care. We support each individual's freedom to make informed and responsible reproductive choices. We promote strong families and planned, wanted children. Our clinical services include reproductive medical exams, prescription and dispensing of contraceptives including emergency contraception, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy tests and full-range options counseling. Our educational services include programs designed for parent groups, church groups, sororities and fraternities, civic and community organizations, as well as professional trainings for staff working with children, teens and youth with developmental disabilities. Volunteers can help with educational program contacts, educational program research and design, fundraising events, marketing campaigns, etc.

Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE)

The Shelter for Help in Emergency is committed to providing a safe, supportive, confidential and respectful environment in which survivors of domestic violence are empowered with the knowledge of personal and community resources as well as the skills needed to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. You can help by sharing your time or professional services, foster pets of SHE clients, donate furniture, clothing, toys, toiletry articles or equipment.

SARA Sexual Assault Resource Agency

SARA is dedicated to reducing vulnerability to sexual assault and to facilitating the recovery of sexual assault victims. Their services include: an educational and training program, crisis intervention, support groups, legal advocacy and counseling for victims, their families and friends. Volunteers help by answering the 24 hour hotline, being a companion to a survivor of sexual assault through various medical, police and legal systems, train to be an educational outreach facilitator, collect and donate new clothing to be provided for survivors at emergency rooms, lastly... listen.

Women's Health VA is the statewide initiative to promote and improve Virginia women's and girl's health and well being. Volunteer opportunities include: Serve as a regional/local contact to disseminate information in your area, Arrange local/regional activities, Participate on a WHV committee to plan programs such as the annual conference and other educational offerings, Develop a research/education project to improve women's/girl's health in collaboration with WHV, Monitor women's/girl's medical advances, events and other news to help WHV maintain its Web site, Identify materials for the WHV information clearinghouse and resource center, become a speaker for women's health to raise awareness of issues affecting women's/girl's health, if you are in the Charlottesville area you may also volunteer at the WHV office.
