BRFC is a private, non-profit land trust operating primarily in Madison and Greene counties. BRFC's mission is to conserve through voluntary land protection, the agricultural, scenic, natural, historic and recreational resources that define the rural character of the communities. Volunteers can accomplish this mission by assisting with program and event planning arrangements, administrative responsibilities, natural and cultural resource inventories, researching land records, publications, photography and graphics projects.

Environmental Education Center

The Environmental Education Center works to protect and restore our environmental heritage through the relationship of specific places, community projects and curricula. Volunteering opportunities include becoming a member of EEC, work with area schools in the Community Habitat Network and Community Watershed Project, be a member of a field team that gathers data about the health of our waterways, work with the Student Water Congress, and/or be a part of the Summer Environmental Education Camp for 6-9th graders.

The Nature Conservancy, Virginia Chapter

This is the VA chapter of an international non-profit conservation group. Their mission is to preserve habitat for rare and endangered species. Volunteers have been utilized as trustees, field researchers, preserve monitors, office receptions, filing clerks, outreach booth attendants, field trip leaders, and speakers.

RTF is a non-profit corporation founded in 1992 by a local group of citizens with a dream: to create a trail system throughout the greenbelt of the Rivanna River and its tributaries. RTR needs volunteers to help build and maintain the trail system.
Rivanna Watershed Center

VDOF is responsible for protecting 15 million acres of forest land from forest fire, insects, and disease. They manage 14 state forests and other state land totaling about 50,000 acres of timber, recreation, water, research, wildlife and biodiversity. They also provide professional forestry advice and technical management assistance for non-industrial private forest landowners through a variety of programs.
