Early Childhood Development
Career Studies Certificate
Preschool
Purpose: This career studies certificate is designed to prepare students to work with young children in a safe and healthy environment to support their individual physical, cognitive social and emotional development. This certificate also meets the requirements for the Virginia Early Childhood Development Certificate (VECD), which has been approved by the national office of Head Start to meet credentialing requirements. Students wishing to earn the VECD certificate are required to take CHD 167: Resource File, as well as complete additional components and documentation as required by VA DSS. Students not using this certificate in that way may complete the certificate by choosing from the following two electives:
CHD 210 - Exceptional Children
PSY 235 - Child Psychology
Gainful Employment Disclosure Form
Infant and Toddler
Purpose: This career studies certificate is designed to prepare students to provide developmentally appropriate learning environments for infants and toddlers. This certificate also meets the requirements for the Virginia Infant Toddler Certificate (VIT), which has been approved by the national office of Head Start to meet credentialing requirements. Students wishing to earn the VIT certificate are required to take CHD 167: Resource File, as well as, complete additional components and documentation as required by VA DSS. Students not using this certificate in that way may complete the certificate by choosing from the following two electives:
CHD 210 - Exceptional Children
PSY 235 - Child Psychology
Admission Requirements: In addition to meeting the admissions requirements established by the College, students must enroll in the career studies certificate program on their PVCC Web application or change to the curriculum through the Admissions and Advising Center.
