DAN 160 Modern Dance (2 cr, F/Sp/Su)

Teaches the basic techniques of creative dance. Skills include self-expression, contemporary routines, dance forms, and basic choreography.

Lecture 1-2 hours.

DAN 161 Dance Production III (2 cr, F)

Focuses on creating a dance performance. Teaches the basic skills in creating and producing a dance. Includes lighting, costumes, music, and choreography.

DAN 162 Dance Production III (2 cr, Sp)

Focuses on creating a dance performance. Teaches the basic skills in creating and producing a dance. Includes lighting, costumes, music, and choreography.

DAN 163 Jazz I (2 cr, IR)

Introduces dance through contemporary jazz movements. Includes floor stretches, isolations, dance patterns and locomotor movements.

DAN 164 Jazz II (2 cr, IR)

Introduces dance through contemporary jazz movements. Includes floor stretches, isolations, dance patterns and locomotor movements.

DAN 165 Tap Dance (2 cr, IR)

Teaches the basic footwork, patterns, and coinciding body movements to various rhythms. Includes development of choreographic routines.

DAN 166 Ballet (2 cr, IR)

Teaches ballet as a discipline with correct alignment and ballet form. Expresses movement through traditional dance form with choreographic emphasis.

DAN 167 Dance Improvisation (2 cr, F)

Explores the creation of spontaneous movement experiences with emphasis on self-expression and creature awareness. Includes improvisational techniques utilizing body awareness, use of the environment, and group dynamics.

DAN 168 Folk Dance (2 cr, IR)

Introduces the basic step patterns, rhythmic patterns, position, and formation of traditional and ethnic group dances.

DAN 169 Square Dance (2 cr, IR)

Introduces the step and movement patterns, rhythmic patterns, and formation of the American square dance. Includes historical significance and development of dance patterns.

DAN 171 Ballroom Dance I (2 cr, IR)

Presents the basic step patterns, rhythmic patterns, and positions in ballroom dance. Includes techniques based upon traditional steps with basic choreographic patterns.

Total 1-3 hours per week.

DAN 200 History of Modern Dance (3 cr, F)

Explores the origin and development of modern dance, with concentration on American choreographers Doris Humphrey, Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham. Studies the cultural, intellectual and physical influences on the development of different techniques and movement theories as well as modern dance companies.

Total 4 hours per week.

DAN 210 Dance Composition I (3 cr, Sp)

Studies the fundamentals of composition and explores movement, time, rhythm, energy and force, and the choreographic devices for creating finished work. Increases personal movement vocabulary and style, and presents choreographic structures with an emphasis on creating solo and small group dance compositions.
