Practical Nursing
Certificate
Purpose: This one-year certificate program is designed to prepare graduates to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
Occupational Objectives: A graduate of this program after successfully completing the NCLEX-PN will be qualified to care for patients in doctors' offices, home health-care agencies, assisted living facilities and nursing homes.
Admission Requirements: In addition to admission to the College, there are specific admission requirements for this program.
- English
- Successful completion of Developmental English courses (English I-5); or
- COMPASS placement demonstrating competency in this content; or
- Completion of an acceptable college-level composition course with a grade of "C" or better; or
- SAT verbal and writing score of 520 or an ACT score of 21.
- Mathematics
- Successful completion of Developmental Math courses (BSK 8 and BSK 9); or
- COMPASS placement within the last 8 years demonstrating competency in this content; or
- Completion of an acceptable college-level math course within the last 8 years with a grade of "C" or better (Technical math and certain liberal arts math courses will not satisfy this prerequisite); or
- SAT quantitative score of 480 or an ACT score of 20
- Biology (high school level)
- Completion of high school biology course with a "C" or better; or
- Successful completion of acceptable college-level biology course; or
- Successful completion of NAS 2 - Foundations of Life Science; or
- Satisfactory completion of NAS 2 Placement Test.
Other Requirements: In addition to tuition and the cost of transportation to clinical sites and parking, students are responsible for the following items (estimated):
