Openings for Youth Summer Career Academies

Charlottesville, Va. – There are still openings in Piedmont Virginia Community College’s College4Kids Summer Career Academies. Over 50 academies provide a variety of hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and the arts for rising 3rd to 9th-grade students. Academies are scheduled for June 16 through Aug. 15.

For class descriptions and to learn more about space availability, log on to www.pvcc.edu/College4Kids. Spaces are still available in many academies such as:

  • Make Your First 3-D Video Game
  • Bug Out: Biodiversity in Our Streams
  • Boe-Bot Robot: Tell a Robot What to Think
  • Fun with Photography
  • Neuroscience: Be Brainy!

The week-long, project-based academies are led by instructors from PVCC, Black Rocket and Green Adventure Project. All academies conclude with a final project and presentations. Academies are offered in the morning (8:45-11:45 a.m.) and the afternoon (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday with a supervised lunch and additional After-Academy activities from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The summer academies take place on the PVCC campus. Need-based scholarships are available.
