Charlottesville, Va. – Registration continues for Piedmont Virginia Community College's free Science Summer Bridge Academy for high school minority graduates in the class of 2014 who are planning to attend PVCC this fall. The academy is scheduled for July 21-31 and space is limited.
Participants will explore the fields of biology, chemistry, microbiology and geology. One credit toward the student orientation class (SDV) required of all first-semester PVCC students enrolled in a degree or certificate program will be awarded upon completion of the academy. The academy is presented through the Virginia-North Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation and is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Accordig to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields (STEM) are expected to add 2.7 million new jobs by 2018, yet women and minorities are vastly underrepresented in those fields.
