Charlottesville, VA - Piedmont Virginia Community College presents the return of Notes on High, A Gospel Showcase, on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building.
Notes on High II will feature four of the area's best local gospel bands and choirs performing a wide variety of music from the gospel tradition including Chosen Gospel Group (Louisa), Portico Band (Charlottesville), Sanctuary Choir of Mt.Zion First African Baptist Church (Charlottesville) and Sounds of Zion Gospel Group (Harrisonburg). Concert host is Chucky Hayes, former host of local radio station 92.7 Kiss FM's "Total Praise with Chucky Hayes Sunday Gospel Show."
The public is also invited to join Horace Scruggs, PVCC's instructor of choral music, for an informative look into the background of one of America's most uplifting art forms on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 12:30 p.m. The History and Practice of Gospel Music lecture will explore gospel music from its beginning as spirituals and work songs up to the gospel performances of today. Archival footage of the pioneers of gospel and a demonstration of how to create an authentic gospel performance will be included.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available by calling the PVCC Box Office at 434.961.5376 and charging them to a VISA or MasterCard, or by purchasing them at Sidetracks, University of Virginia Arts Box Office, Greenberry's Coffee, and the PVCC Cashier's Office during normal business hours. Tickets can also be purchased at the PVCC Box Office window within two hours before the performance.
